THE STRATEGIST
Each of our Strategies go through a rigorous vetting process to ensure they are ready for our investor community. We want to make sure that their strategies have been tested and if they are of the highest quality and standards. We keep a leaderboard to show which financial investment strategies are performing the best, which means that our Strategist have to stay on top of their game or have a systematic approach to their investment strategy.
CMS Advisor Services, formally a division of Capital Management Services, Inc., was developed because of the investor community’s high demand for continual improvement within the ever-changing financial environment.
STRATEGIC PHILOSOPHY
Fact-Based Investing: The Science of “What Is”
At CMS, there are no predictions, opinions, outlooks or forecasts. We have no opinions – but we’ve got lots of facts. We call our approach “Fact-Based Investing.”
Where others try to seduce with predictions, opinions, outlooks or forecasts, CMS sticks to the dictum of Dragnet’s Sgt. Joe Friday: “Just the fact’s, ma’am.” Those words – predictions, opinions, outlooks, forecasts – form the acronym “POOF”, which is an apt description of what can happen to a client portfolio or advisor’s business when he or she overly relies on them.
Fact-Based Investing, by contrast, deals with the market as it really is, and never seeks to impose our opinions about what it “ought” to be doing. With an emphasis on supply-and-demand measurements, market trends and high-performing asset classes are identified. Using multiple time frames, CMS strategies seek to participate in up trends, protect in down trends, and constructs portfolios solely from high-performing asset class candidates.
Investing is a journey. Successfully reaching an investor’s destination requires that the journey not be ruined by disaster along the way:
- A 50 percent decline just before an investor’s planned retirement date.
- A bear market so psychologically crippling that an investor quits in a combination of fear and disgust.
- A portfolio so conservative that it will not be destroyed by a bear market, but neither will it come close to meeting the investor’s retirement goals.
- A portfolio so rigid in its pie chart allocations that it pours money into losing positions without regard to the realities of the market, and requires the investor to “hang in there” during bear markets in hopes of one day getting back to even.
Benjamin Graham, know as the “Dean of Wall Street” during his career, wisely cautioned that investors should keep their priorities straight when he said, “The essence of investment management is the management of risk, not the management of returns. “CMS Advisor Services, like Benjamin Graham, makes management of risk the centerpiece of every CMS strategy. To CMS, disaster avoidance is not just a cute phrase – it is the guiding principle behind everything we do.
